Concrete for Aloha, an Unincorporated Community
Aloha has more people than many Oregon cities, 53,828 at the 2020 census, yet it is still an unincorporated community in Washington County. When homeowners there look for concrete contractors in Aloha, one of the first things we explain is that county rules, not city rules, apply to work at the street. The census counted 19,094 housing units across about 7.4 square miles, all of it land.
A community that never became a city
Trains began stopping in the area in 1907. The post office named Aloha opened on January 9, 1912; before that, the area was known as Wheeler Crossing. In 1984 residents tried to incorporate, but the regional boundary commission halted the effort, finding the community could not provide the municipal services of a city. Fire and EMS come from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
Aloha grew steadily for decades: 28,353 people in 1980, 34,284 in 1990, 41,741 in 2000 and 49,425 in 2010. Each of those decades added subdivisions, so the area has driveways and patios from the 1970s through today.
What we see on Aloha lots
On homes from the 1970s and 1980s, driveways are often cracked across several panels, with aprons broken at the curb. Patios from the same era have tipped toward the house or sunk at a corner. On 1990s and 2000s homes, the work is more often patio extensions, side walks to the back yard, and pads for sheds or RVs. Aloha's mostly flat ground, at about 200 feet, makes drainage the main design issue. With little natural fall, water sits unless the slab is pitched with care.
County rules for walks and approaches
Washington County handles permits for work in road rights-of-way in Aloha. The county says sidewalks, landscaping and vegetation are typically maintained by adjacent property owners unless the county installed them as part of a county project, and some streets are local access roads the county does not maintain. The county also announced a Sidewalk Repair Grant Program in 2023 for owners in the Urban Road Maintenance District who hire a licensed contractor. If your project touches the approach or the public walk, we check the county's rules before we schedule.
Near our home base
Aloha is a short drive from Tigard, so estimates there are easy to schedule. Many of its neighborhoods have similar homes on similar lots, but the concrete on each one has aged differently depending on drainage, trees and how it was first poured. We look at your slab specifically, not just the age of the house, and recommend the smallest fix that will actually last.
Flat lots and water
Because so much of Aloha is flat, the most common complaint we hear is a patio or walk that holds water. Fixing it usually means removing the slab, adjusting the base and pouring it back with a gentle fall away from the house. Sometimes a yard drain at the low edge is also worth adding.

Aloha Questions
Who issues permits for driveway approaches in Aloha?
Aloha is unincorporated, so Washington County handles right-of-way permits. We confirm the county's requirements before we schedule approach or sidewalk work.
Is there help paying for sidewalk repair in Aloha?
Washington County's Sidewalk Repair Grant Program reimburses part of the cost for eligible owners in the Urban Road Maintenance District who use a licensed contractor. Check current terms with the county.
Can you pour an RV pad in Aloha?
Yes. We check setbacks and any HOA rules, then pour a thicker slab on a compacted base sized for the vehicle.
Why does water pool on my flat Aloha patio?
The slab was likely poured with too little fall, or part of it has settled. Replacing it with a gentle pitch away from the house, and sometimes adding a yard drain, solves it.
